Joel Lopata serves as Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at Vincimus Capital, where he oversees the legal and regulatory work that comes with sophisticated alternative investing.
Licensed both as a Series 65 financial advisor and as a California attorney, Joel brings a rare combination of perspectives to the firm. His experience spans civil litigation, business buy-sell and succession planning, entity formation and transfers, multi-state regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation — a breadth that strengthens how Vincimus serves the families it works with.
Before Vincimus, Joel conducted investigations into public corruption, securities fraud, and antitrust matters at Hogan Lovells, then the world's sixth-largest law firm. Earlier in his career, he worked at the FBI's Los Angeles field office alongside Special Agents in the legal department and the violent crime division.
Joel earned his J.D. magna cum laude from Pepperdine University School of Law and his undergraduate degree from Pepperdine, where he played varsity volleyball. Outside of work, he serves as an Elder at The Malibu Gathering, and most weekends you'll find him with his wife and three kids at Bluffs Park or the beach.
Whether in the boardroom, at his church, or at the beach with his family, Joel brings the same standard — care, rigor, and patience for the people on the other side of the work.
